Cripps, X.0., VicarGeneral for the province of Canterbury, has resigned as a protest against toe education compromise. Archbishop Bourne, speakmg on behalf of the Catholic hierarchy, declared that Mr Kunciman's compromise was no real settlement. One hundred and fifty members of tho Housa of Commons have appealed to Mr Asquitb not to maintain the military and naval establishment, on a soale which is not necessitated' by the exigencies of the situation. Mr Haldano, spealiiDg at the City Liberal Club, ' said the Lords' attitude towards the Bill marked the great cleavage between th eniselvas and the large majority of Commoners, and thrtt a serious situation on tho question haa come to stay until somehow settled.
