Melbourne, Nov. 22 "- Owing to. rain play tbe ohampionsbips was delayed till the afternoon. The courts were slippery. Interest in the doubles matcb drew a large attendance. Early in the play it was apparent that the Americans were suffering from the muggy heat, a succession of faulty giving the Australians a good lead, and they gained the first three games. Brookes and Wilding both played brilliantly throughput, working together like clockwork., TjfeJihird set ,W(ls ; -exciting^' the Americans playing beautiful tennis.
