MR ALFRED R. SMART.

The death occurred on November sth. of Mr A. R. Smart, a well-known and -highly respected refsftlent of; this city. For "some time past Mr Smart had not been in good health aftd three weeks ago he left his office. Last week he took a. turn for the worse and, no hope was held out" for his rc^ covery, ; the end coming yesterday morning. . He occupied the vari-ous-positions in the Lodge and District, and for the pa£t . thirteen years was Provincial Corresponding Secretary. Mr Smart had -also represented tho Nelson district -^fc the..annual moveable : conference -at Auckland arid 1 had, held the position of a director of the Order in Ncw T Zealand. At the time of his death: Mr ; Smart *was an auditor for the Permanent Building Society, and Returning Officer to the Nelson City Council. Tlie deceased, who had reached his '6lst year, -leaves a wdiow and one son and ono daughter ■','"■ ■■•■ The funeral of. the late Mr A. R. Smart took nkce yesterday after- 1 noon, and was largely attended. Tho Oddfellows, City Council staff and the Permanent Building Society were represented, as well as many private friends of deceased. The Oddfellows' service was road by Bra F. Codke, P.G.M., and Rev Stanley Jeiikin; conducted^the: funeral service.
