MOTUEKA ELECTION.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a fairly large crowd outside the post office until a late hour on election night, waiting for. the returns from the various polling booths. Mr G. W. Jenkins was to the fore as usual with a large board, showing the results, and a word of thanks is due to this gentleman for his exertions. , --- V Wnen the result of the local electoral contest was nearly completed, and Mr R. McKenzie's return was assured, that gentleman, in response to urgent calls, by; .the crowd,,mounted a temporary platform aria" addressed the gathering. He regretted that some of his political and personal friends had been defeated at < the polls, notably the ex- Minister of Lands, Mr R. McNab. He thanked his supporters heartily for placing him " at the top of the poll for the fifth consecutive time, and be assured all those present that his best efforts would be used for the benefit of the whole eleototate.
