LICENSING RETURNS 1905.

2769 2337 2415 75 There was some -confusion in regard to the count of the licensing papers at the Brook street school. The first return^ was given as: Continuance 149, reduction 128, no license 145. Later the return was given as : Continuance 144, reduction 8, no license 28: <■ This was again altered to: Continuance 149, reduction 128, no license 145. A recount of the papers took place yesterday at the office of the Returning Officer, with the Jesuit that the figures are now; given as ; : Continuance 149, reduction ,131, no license 1.45, jnformal2o. Three ballot papers bearing the "restoration of licenses" issue were inadvertently issued -to voters at this' booth. These contain two lines only, the top. one being .for restoration." As 'this was crossed out in each .case and it was the evident intention of the voter§ to "strike out the top line," it was agreed by the Deputy Returning Officer and • scrutineers to count the votes as for reduction and no liceiise.
