[United Press Association.] Falmerston N, . Nov. 19. Tee death is announced of Kerei Te Panau, a notable chief of the Kangitano and Rangitikoi tribes, at Awapuni last night. lierei was familiarly known as "Grey," and is supposed to have been the oldest natwe in the .Dominion. Though his nge is not exactly known, his reference to events in the pfst which he stated tbat he had witnessed, showed tuat he had reacbr ed over 120 years. Many years ago Kerei married Erene Te Awe Awe, sister of the chiet whose' memorial is now a conspicuous object in the Square, and with his wife and Peoti brought about friendly relations be tween the natives of Manawatu and the early settlers. Though contrary to the "wish of the family, it is expected that the natives will, hold a large tangi at Awapuni.
