o A FIRE INSURANCE SCHEME Dnnedin, 17. At the Presbyterian Assembly this morning, tbe Rev. Mr Morrison moved tbe adoption of the report of tbe Fire Insurance Committee, "?ho were instructed by last year's Assembly to gather data-in connection with "a scheme to enable the Presbyterian Church to establish a fare insurance fend to insure its -own church properties. Tne general principle of the scheme suDmitted is that of guarantees, no money being cilled from tbe gjarantors except iv tne^event of such losses as ordinary current revenue cannot meet, lho committee sought power to ask guarantees up to £10,000 from Presbyterians, "and outlined a scbeine under which the fund would bo ootitrolled by three ministers and live laymen, who would levy tho amounts payable by the churches tbtiie'iund as premiums to effect reinsurances with insurance companies if considered desiraole, and to generally manage the fund. Chandler was received into the church. Tl c augmentation fund committee recommended that the object of the fund' be to augment stipends cf tho more poorly paid ministers of the northern "section of the church. That tha churcb aim at raising a. sum as shall secure a stipend or £225, exclusive of inanee or house allowance. Tbe report nns received. The regulations to be sent to the presbyteries, deacons' courts, and management committees for consideration. It was recommended a fund be established for the women workers of home ?nd foreign missions who •became incapacitated, the capital to. be at least £ 10, and the proposed annuity to be £30, with a bonus ot £1 for every year of service, the maximum annuity to be £60. The raport is to bo sent to the presbyteries, etc*, for co&sideration, to report at next Assembly. ,
