THE GENERAL ELECTION.

POLLING DAY. HEAVY POLLING IN THE CITY. The weather was fine for yesterdays' poll although overcast, and tho heat -experienced during the preceding few days -was tempered by a cold northerly breeze. Electors and the supporters of the different candidates were early astir, and as soon as the polling booths were open thero was a steady stream of voters to exercise their privileges. Central Hardy, street, where "the license^ no license and Mr Atmore's committee rooms were located, was a scene of great activity, vehicles of all descriptions, motor cars, etc, being despatched from there to take the voters to the poll. At the Rechabite Hall, in Bridge street, Mr Graj ham's committee conducted their operations, and the locality was thronged with friends and supporters. The forenoon polling was considered by all sides to be the heaviest recorded, while in the afternoon the various booths were rushed, large numbers having to wait for lengthy periods before being admitted. Tho different booths in the city were particularly busy between four o'clock and the hour of closing the poll.
