MAITAI BOWLING CLUB.

The opening of tho Maitai Bowling Club's green for the season took place yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance of bowlers, the Nelson Club being well represented. Thero was also a largo number of spectators present, including many ladies. Tho President (Mr E. .Richards) in an appropriate speech declared the green open, and welcomed the members of tho Iselson Club. Ho also comnimouted the caretaker (Mr l'ogg) on tho ap- l pearance of tho green. Since last season tho green has been re-laid-by Mr Collins, of Christchurch, and yesterday it was played on for the first time. Bowlers were unanimous in their praise of the way the green played, the bowls running true and members felt rewarded for the expenditure in the improvement of the green. The surroundings of the green are bright with many coloured flowers, and with the. summer costumes of the ladies presented a gay appearance. A match was played between rinks chosen by the President arid Vice President (Dr* Wright) respectively, which resulted in a, win for the latter, by the narrow margin of three' points, the totals being, Vice President 93, President 90. Afternoon tea was provided by the Club and dispensed by Mrs Richards and other adies. The scores were : — President. Vice-President. Frost . v Thorn Robson Hounsell. Whiting Dee A.
