A GOLD FRAUD.

A famous geologist and several engineers have _ been cleverly swindled by a Norwegian business man and a German engineer. These two owned the Topdal and Tonisdal Rivers, in Norway, and they asked the geologist- to analyse the soil of the river beds, because they thought it. contained gold. The geologist was assisted by English engineers. He made a great number of borings in different parts of the rivers, and declared that the sand, contained a very high percentage of pure gold.

When the result- of these analyses wore made public they created a great sensation, and the rights over the river were sold at an enormous price to a joint stock company, which was financed for the most part by English money,, ; Great pumping and boring plants were built, but not a bit of gold was found. The English engineers became, suspicious, and made a new investigation, with the result that it was found that the rivers held no gold whatever.

# The vendors of the concern had simply coated with gold, mixed with grease.ithe insides of the boring pipes used in the high investigations. That was where the high percentage of gold had "come from. 'The vendors have been arrested.
