NELSON COLLEGE V. OLD BOYS. The first .football riiateli of the seaspni was playedfat Trafalgar Park on Saturday afternoon .between the Nelson College first 'fifteen ajicl a team froni the recently formed Old Boys' Club, the latter commencing their career by winning by thirteen points to eight. There was a large attendance, of spectators. In the first spell Bisley scored two tries for the Old Boys', one being convertad by Sandel. In the second half Edmiindson scored for the. Old Boys; and Sandel was again successful lat goal. Quilliam scored for the Collegians, beating the full back, and touching down. Papps added the major points. "The Old Boys' team is rather on the light side, but it ua.3 some smart backs, who have bad tbe benefit of a College training, and with some weight in tbe forwards should become a formidable team. Next Saturday at Wellington, the Nelson College Old tioya' will meet the Wellington College Old Boys' in the first match for the shield presented for competition amongst Old Boys' clubs by Mr W. Devenish, President of fche Nelson College Old Boya' Club. Tbe local team will be strengthened by the inclusion of several "Old Boya" now resident. in Wellington and "elsewhere On Easter Monday, the winners of this match will play the Chriscburch High School Old Boys. Next year the Wanganui "College Old Boys' will take r'part in the competition, md delegates from the various Old Boys' Associations will meet in Welington during Easter to discnas conlitioas for the competition. Next Saturday a team Irom the Petone Club «i!l play the Albions at Crafalgar Park, and'on Easter Monlay the Rivals will meet a team irom the St. Jamea' Club. Entries for the Cup competitions jlossd on Saturday night, and the natches this season promise to provide some interesting; sport. There vill be six teams in the senior cham)iosship, the new entrants being the Vaimea, winuers of the Junior Cup ast year, and the Old Boys. There fill probably be saven teams for the unibr Cup (including the Wakeield Rovers) savon for the Second unior (including Old Boys) and five or the third class championship. It has been decided that tbe North sland v South Island match will be layed in Wellington on Saturday receding the test match between be Britishers and New Zealand, and bat tbe selectors will be present for he purpose of finally picking the lew Zealand team.
