LIVING WHIST AND KLRMESS.

Lasu evening there ivas anotbor large attendance at tbj Theatre Royal on the occasion <f, the third performance of the livingwhist and kirmess entertainment given by three hundred performers under t&e direction of Professor Sheeti, in aid of the Old People's Home rt-build-ing fund. Any stiffness thaff may have been noticeable on the ofaniug night has disappeared, and the players enter into the spirit oi tho entertainment with an abandon lhat captivates the audience, and w\ns rounds of applause. Last evening I the popular Rose Drill was present- I cd. and the Gipsy dance, which met with so much favour on the previous evening, was again rendered. Another popular item was the May Drill, exeouted by twenty young children, who went through a number of evolutions in a skilful manner, which elicited rounds of applause. The Scotch sword dance, by young girls in kilts, the Japanese Court dance, the French Court mmuet, the Austrian Uourt dance, cavy and jockey dance, ' Cakewalk, and the popular "Navajo" were among the other dances executed. The male glee party contributed two items, which wez'e much appreciated, and Miss Fanny Coote, who made her last appearance in Nelson, gave a capital recitation, which was encored. The living whist was again successfully presented, and the orchestra, consisting of Misses Shone, Rowe, Coote, Messrs Berryman, Louisson, Woodnard, M 'Donald and Professor Sheets, rendered splendid service.

To-liight the programme will comprise all the dances, and no encores will be granted. Instrumental and vooal items will be presented, and it being the last night a crowded house may be expected. To-morrow afternoon a matinee performance will be given, commencing'at 3 o'clock. Representations have been made to the committee to repeat the performance to-morrow evening for the benefit of country residents, and the matter is under consideration.

Among the vocalists at this ovening's performance will be Misses Reeves and Bamford.
