FATAL ACCIDENTS.

Whangarei, August 15. An accident, which resulted fatally, occurred to Edward Croucher, an unmarried miiu, aged 30 years, at Whatitiri. He, with his brother, was engaged crosscutting a tree, and tooK charge of the saw as the tree was about to fall. The brother got away clear. Looking round he saw Edward pinned to the ground, the tree lying across the body. Great difficulty was experienced in liberating the unfortunate man. Both his legs were badly broken, and he had also sustained severe internal injuries. He was conveyed to the Whangerei hospi- [ tal, where he died an hour later. . He was conscious to the last. The ' deceased's parents live in England, whence Croucher came ten years ago. Trentham, August 15. Henry Fairbrothor, a jockey, whe ! was |injured at the recent meeting at Trentham, died in the Wellington Hospital to-day. The deceased, t single man, belonged to Hastings.
