MAITAI BOWLING CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members oi the Maitai Bowling Club was held at the Masonic social room last evening. The President (Mr Chas. Lamb) occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance of members. Minutes were read and confirmed. In submitting tbe fifth annual re port the Committee congratulated the Club on ite forward polioy and the position it now held in bowling circles; The paslt season had been s very prosperous dnd, the nlembers'hif of the Club had increased, and members had displaced greatei energy, nine more games being played than during the previous season. The green was also opened three weeks ealier than usual, namely, October 3rd.- The new pavilion had proved most Useful; besides improving the aspect of the surroundings of the green. Regret wag expressed at tha departure from Nelson of. Mr E. Q. Wiiduh,who was elected Vice-President at the last annual meeting of the Club, and Mr J. Calder had been elected to the position. Prior to his departure, Mi Wilson was entertained at a social gathering by the members, and waf the recipient of a presentation ir recognition of tbe valuable services he bad rendered the Club. It was mentioned thai during the Season Mi Cotton resigned the position of caretaker, but the resignation was ultimately withdrawn and satisfactory arrangements made with Mr Cotton to continue his. care of, the green, which had now been put in th_rot_g_. order. Reference was made to the visits from outside clubs, and the pleasant games that had been played. At the Easter tournament the Maitai Club had been most Successful, winning all games played against visiting rinks. The thanks of the Club were also accorded .those players whe went on tour, and represented the Club against Picton, Blenheim, Petohe, NewtowDj Feilding, and Palmerston North. The afternoon tea system arranged by Mr A. Dee had proved a huge success, and the thanks of. the Club were due to all those ladies who had assisted in dispensing this necessary adjunct. The Club competitions resulted as follows :— Senior Championship, J Calder, ruDner up W. Dee; Junior Championship, J. W. Smith, runner up — Pears; President's trophy, G. M. Simpson; Mr Moyes' trophy, J. McEachen; B. and K. Buckles, B. Webley J. Bockmann, D. Barnett 1 and G. Simpson (sttip) ; Pairs, (Mesrss T. Chisholm's and J. Calder's trophies), W. Dee and J. ' Richards; Simpson-Horne trophy, E. Richards (this trophy has to be won twice in succession or three times at i intervals): Novice Trophy (Messrs Wilkins and Field), Mr J. Rich- | ards. The Committee : desired to place on record the valuable ser- . vices rendered by the President, who | worthily followed the example of his predecessors in this office. The finances of the Club were in a sound condition} despite the heavy expense incurred in improving the green, and in view of the extraordinary pains taken by Mr A. Day in this direction, the Committee suggested that he should be elected an honorary playing member. Pleasure was expressed at the formation of a club at Motueka, and it was hoped that similar clubs would be started near Wakefield or Richmond. In conclusion, the Committee said the thanks of the Club were due to the Press for the liberal way in which they had reported matches. The report and Treasurer's statement was read and adopted. The balance sheet showed a substantial credit balance. It was stated that there were 67 paid-up members in the club. Messrs W. J. Dougan, S. F. Bolton, A. Q. Shrimpton,and D. Brown were elected new members^ Messrs Brown and Kerr wrote offering to present trophies to the members of the rink winniDg the Brown & Kerr Buokles competition. The offer was accepted with thanks. Mr C. Cotton, the caretaker, forwarded an account for £7 17s 6d for extra labor done on the Green, which he asked the club to assist him in paying. It was pointed out that the caretaer's salary had been increased by jSIO, in order to meet extra expenditure. After discussion it was resolved to hold the account over until it was seen if the Green was satisfactory. Trophies were then presented to the successful competitors. Mr E. Richards offered a trophy for competition for next season. The eleotion of officers resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr J. Graham, M.H.R. (re-elected); President, Mr J. M. Calder; Vice-President Mr E. Riohards; Hon. Treas., Mr J. E. Milner; Hon. Secretary, Mr E. J. Chappie; General Committee, Messrs C. J. McEachen, W. Dee, Jas. McEachen, W. Hockey, J. E. Hounsell, Jas. Armstrong, and M. J. Levy; Match Committee, Messrs J. MoEachen, G. Dee, and Walter Hockey (re-elected); Auditor, Mr C. J. McEachen; Trustees, Messrs G M. Simpson and W. Dee. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the retiring President (Mr O. Lamb). Regret was expressed that Messrs C. McEachen and W. A. Dee saw fit to decline nomination for the offices of hon. treasurer and hon. secretary respectively, and it was resolved to place an appreciation of their services on the records of the olub. Members referred in highly complimentary terms to the valuable services rendered the club by these officers, and they were accorded a* hearty vote of thanks by acclamation. Messrs Calder and E. Richards thanked members for the honor conferred on them in electing them President and Vice-President respectively. The arrangements for afternoon tea fox *next season were left in the oapable hands of Mr A. Dee. Votes of thanks were accorded the Press, and to the ladies, and the meeting terminated at 10.30 p .m.
