MISS MURCUTT'S LECTURES.

Miss Murcutt gave another lecture at the School of Music last night, when Mr A. T. Maginnity presided, ahd in his introductory remarks stated those who were not attending Miss Murcutt's . lectures werß .not aware of the intellectual treat they wero mis-siiig. Miss Murcutt spoke on America and the Americans as she had seen them, and from start to finish she rivet ted the close attention of her audience, who frequently applauded her utterances. She expressed admiration of the American system of education, .and the educational institutions. She emphasised that American women were taught to be selfsupporting. She strongly denounced the corruption, official and otherwise : and the Trusts, which advanced the prices of articles needed by the masses of the people. She emphatically asserted from her own observations that the prohibitory laws were effective; and noted the preference given total abstainers by American companies and employers, not so much from priuciple, but for commercial and trade reasons. She concluded her lecture with a pungent I denunciation of the liquor^trade. During the evening Mr Brady gave a solo, which was much appreciated. The usual votes of thanks were accorded. On Sunday, at 8; 15 p.m., Miss Murcutt will speak in the Theatre on ' National Righteousness,' when the Bishop of Nelson will preside.
