Hounsell. 1 V.M.C.A.— Some twenty members ; were present at the Young Men's Christian Association's Debating 1 class held on Thursday evening, when a mock Mayoral and Council election was held. Mr Grant pre- ' sided. For the position of Mayor, Messrs Andrews, Symons and Bradberry bad been nominated. Each gentleman, in a speech of some ten minutes, expressed bis opinions concerning civic affairs, and at the close of their addresses a vote was taken, when Mr 2 Bradberry was placed first. For the postionsof Councilors there were eight aspirants. Their views had to be compressed somewhat, as only five minutes were allowed each speaker. Messrs McLean, Sieveright and Robinson were returned for the three positions on the Council. &&-„• Social Gathering. — Last evening at the conclusion of the choir practice ofJAll Saints' choir the members assembled in the schoolroom to bid good bye to Mr Lobb, oae of their members, who is leaving shortly for Auckland.
