In the House of Commons, Mr Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, in reply to a question, announced that he intended to prosecute Mr Kelly, an Irish magistrate, in connection with his incendiary speech from the Bench. In reply to Sir Howard Vincent, Mr Asquith, Chancellor of the Exchequer, said the Government had not considered the desirableness of offering Suez Canal shares to the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, India, and Natal, at market rates, in proportion to their interest in the canal. He did not think the suggestion practicable. The committee under the chair* mansbip of Lord Farrar, appointed to inquire into the practicability and desirableness of the Post Office providing a connection with the Savings Bank for the insurance of employers against liabilities under the Workers' Compensation fur Accident Aot, reports that it is undesirable that the State should embark on insurance schemes.
