MISS MURCUTT'S LECTURES.
JAPAN AND THE JAPANESE. There was a fairly good attendance at the School of Music last night, when Miss Murcutt gave her first lecture in Nelson. His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Piper) presided, and in an appropriate speech introduced Miss Murcutt; to the audience. In doing so he referred to the strong sympathy that all Britishers felt for the Japanese in the war with Russia. Miss Murcutt, who is tall and commanding in appearance, possesses a good voice, is very pleasing in her manner, and rapidly wins the appreciation of her audience.
