WAI-ITI LITERARY SOCIETY.

The usual weekly meetings of the Wai-lfci Literary Society are well attended. On Friday evening, the 7th iust. , a social was held, at which the children attending the Wai-iti State school and their parents were the guests of the School Committee, and the school was packed to tue dodrs» a tefy enjoyable programme wss gone through, consisting of selections by the Wakefield Brass Band, Mr R. Watson's phonograph, songs by Miss C. Tunnicliffe, Mrs Watson, Messrs G. Cole,Len. Hoult, S. Field, G. Johnson, fand a. E. Batt ; duet, Messrs W. and G. Cole ; recitation, Mr L. Field, and exhibition of dummy boxing manipulated by Mr G. Johnson. The essays are to be judged by Mr Edridge, the result to be made known at Friday next's meeting. It should be mentioned that the Society is giving a first and second prize. This makes the contest more interesting. The item on the syllabus for .this week is a debate on Technical Education. Mr Lbd. Hoult takes the affirmative, and Mr Smith the negative. — Communicated.
