ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB'S ANNUAL SPORTS. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The above Club held its annual sports meeting here on Boxing Day. The weather, which up to sports day had been exceptionally dry, did not favor the local athletes, and proved a big bar to the success of the meeting as intermittent showers fell during the day,and consequently the attendance was considerably affected. Two features of the meeting were the new cycling track, which has just, been laid down, and the presence of the Takaka Brass Band with their new set of instruments. Both these items were favorably commented on. The track was in first rate order, and cyclists and

pedestrians alike were loud in their! praises of this great improvement. 1 The present suifaco of lhe track is sea mud rolled hard, but the Club purpose going a step farther if possible next year, and asphalt the top, when the Club will have a really up-to-date track. Tho action of so many competitors who nominated for the running events and failed to start \put a great damper on the meeting, and was a poor compliment to the Club officials, wbo have gone to great trouble and personal expense to provide a good day's sport. Unless the young men of the place do better than this next year things will drop back considerably, as the public will soon get siok of seeing the same few men competing in each event. The concert and ball given ih aid of the track Jund in the evening proved a great success, both being well patronised, and everyone having a good time.
