MARLBOROUGH NEWS.
Blenheim, January 2. A serious shortage of grain sacks is boing felt throughout the Colony owing to the early harvest, and the late indenting of Calcutta shipments which are expected to arrive at the middle of the present month. In this district the shortage will make a difference to many farmers who will have to stack their sheaves instead of threshing from the stook as in former years. ~~ Tho Customs and beer duties last year constituted a record.' Mar ri ages last year increased from 53 to 80. . The Criterion hotel is to be rebuilt. The new building will be three storey, and will be in brick.
