MOTUPIKO.

On Tuesday evening, the Motupiko Literary Society, in conjunction with the local School Committee, held a social in the schoolroom. The primary object of the gathering was to bid farewell to Miss Morrison, who has held the position of assistant mistress of the Motupiko school for about four years, during which time she has gained the goodwill and respect of all. There was a large attendajape, many members of the Tapawora Literary 'Society being present to show their goodwill to the Motupiko Society, and their respect to Miss Morrison. The Chairman of the School Committee, IVlr Thomas Quinney, occupied the chair. g A varied programme of songs, readings, recitations, and instrumental pieces was rendered to a very appreciative audience. During the performance Mr G. L. Mead, President of the Literary Society, on behalf of the residents of Motupiko and the surrounding districts, presented Miss Morrison with a handsome watch and chain, and in doing so feelingly referred to the good work she had done in the district, and to the help she had always pleased'to give, in a musical way, to the furtherance of any deserving objecc.

At the conclusion of the supper, which followed the concert, Mr Allen proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the performers, the ladies who had provided such an excellent supper, and to the Chairman, who had so ably presided over the meeting. The proceedings were brought "i i close by the singing of "God &;-•■> the King" and "Auld Lang Syne. ' _
