MAITAI V. NELSON. The fifth match for the Duncan Challenge Shield was played at the Botanical Reserve yesterday afternoon between the Nelson and Maitai Clubs, and resulted in a win for the latter by four goals to nil. There was a fair sprinkling of spectators present, but the exhibition of hockey was not attractive. Play commenced at half-past three, and the ball at once went into Nelson terri- '. tory, Rowley, the goalkeeper, being called on to save. The Nelson for- j wards then took play into the Maitai ' circle, but a good hit relieved, and ' play was taken to midfield, and from ( a good rush Batchelor scored for ] Maitai. On resuming, play still, kept in Nelson quarters, until a ■ corner hit took play into the Maitai ' ground. From here Maitai charged ] down, but missed the goal. Another ! Maitai attack was saved by Rowley ]

in good style. Soon after starting the second spell Nelsoon rushed down, Harris getting within scoring distance, but \CroudJß .saved by a timely hit: Nelson now gave the Maitai a busy time defending, "but ultimately play worked towards the Nelson line." From a .forward rueh the ball was sent to tihe Nelson goal, and appeared to k be going over tbe line, thus deceiving the Nelson backs: The Maitai forwards rushed Up, and prevented the return by Rowly, and Miller scored. Within a couple of minutes Miller again scored after a nice dribble. Hard play by the Nelson forwards kept the ball in Maitai terriory, and King dribbled into tho Maitai circle, t btif Starr stated with a good hit into touch. Bafchelpr and Miller then broke away with a long dribble, E. Spear just saving a score in time. Soon afterwards the Maitai forwards again charged, Miller again scoring. The game ended shortly after without further score. Messrs W, Dee and F, Harford gave satisfaction as referees.
