HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

i The Department of Industries anc i Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, July 7th :— There is no change in the mutfcor market to report sinoe last week. • The lamb market is very firm, and the market is advancing owing tc strong demand. The average prict for Canterbury brands is s^d, anc other than Canterbury brands 4%c per lb. It is reported that the provincial demand is falling off, owing i to higher prices ruling, The beef market is very dull, and the supply exceeds the demand. The weather has been unfavorable to the sale. The average prices are 3^d tc 2d per lb for hind and forequarters respectively. The butter market is very firm. New Zealand stocks are almost exhausted. There is a great demand in the market for New Zealand butter at 106s per cwt. There are, however, no stocks in cold store available. Danish is quoted at Ills, Siberian at 96s and Irish at 104s per cwt. Butter prospects for next season are encouraging. The cheese marKet is very firm, and there is a general and active demand. White makes are selling at 635, and colored at 60a per cwt. The hemp market is very firm, and there has been an exceptional demand. The market prospects are favorable. G.f.a.q., Wellington, on spot, is worth £34, and OctoberDecemter* shipments £33 10s per ton. The stocks on hand are 655 toos, against 2907 held in the corresponding period last year. The cocksfoot market is quiet, and there is less demand at 46s per cwt for 171b bright, clean, dressed seed. The wool market is quiet, with a tendency in favor of buyers. The following are the arrivals from the River Plate during the month of June:— Mutton— London, 54,882; Liverpool, 332,282: Cardiff, 9466; Ireland, 6015; Glasgow, 8700; total, 211,345. Lamb — Liverpool, 6776; Cardiff, 1000; total, 7776. The average price of River Plate mutton is 3Vid,and lamb 4%d per lb.
