APPOINTMENT OF ENGINEER.

Wellington, July 11 Mr Lawrence Birks has been appointed Engineer-jn-cbarge at Rotorua from 51 applicants. He took honors in chemistry, etc., at the South Australian University in 1893, Rnd in 1896 was appointed Assistant Professor of Engineering at Heriot College, Edinburgh. He subsequently returned to Adeaide, and later on was appointed electrical engineer to the Sydney City Council, and held that position until 1903, when h8 came to Christen 11 rcb, where he was installed as electrical engineer to the municipality, then lecturer to Canterbury College, and finally he was chosen by the New Zealand Eleetrical Construction Co. as its engineer.
