Club. i There was an angry scene in the | State Assembly, during which Mr Solly characterised the Bent Administration as the most corrupt Victoria had ever known. Mr Solly was ordered to retire from the Chamber, and when allowed to return he withdrew the remark, but alleged it had been made to him by a supporter of " the Government. During the excitement Mr Bennett denounced Mr Bent, the Premier, j as- a "scandalous old rascal. " Jie subsequently withdrew the remark, but asked for a Royal Commission to inquire into the purchase of the • Chirnside estate, as corruption was whispered. The cricket difficulty, as far as Victoria is concerned, is settled, and the agreement will be signed to-day. The Melbourne Club joins the Victorian Association and releases the Ne\y South Wales players from the obligation to play against the English team. The Association undertakes tc use its influence to have the Club represented on the Board of j Control. Sydney, July 11. The Premier has expressed his willingness to receive a deputation from the tramway men to bear their grievances. The Australasian Institute or! Engineers has presented gold badges to Mr BeDnett, Chief Engineer, and Mr Hastilow. Sceond Engineer, of the steamer Victoria, as a mark of appreciation of the pluck and resourcefulness displayed in repairing! damage of the steamer's cylinder at sea.
