NELSON AMATEUR ATHLETIC AND CYCLING CLUB.

THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the abovenamed Club was held last night, in the Camera Club's Room, when Mi C Y. Fell (the Preaident) was in the chair. The minutes were confirmed. Mr H. Milner, the hon. Secretary, read the eleventh annual report. In presenting the annual report, the Committee expressed pleasure at the success of the past season. Only one sports meeting was undertaken, during Carnival week, and it proved financially the most successful ever undertaken by the Club. The sport was of a very high order, the principal events being contested keenly by the "cracks" of the Colory. Instead of the usual Labor Day sports meeting, a gyymkhana and floral fete was held, which proved very successful, resulting in a 'profit of .£35. The receipts for the year amounted to £625 18s,and the expenditure to £598 8s 3d, leaving a credit balance in the Bank of £27 9s 9d. The assets of the Club were valued at £61 9s 3d, which, after deducting the liabilites,£s 15s, left the" Club with a total credit balance of £55 14s 3d. Outstanding subscriptions amounted to £18. It was worthy of note that the Committee commenced the season with liabilities amounting to £2*20, and ended with a cash credit of £27 9s 9d. The receipts for the season, which included £100 for the sale of the Club's rooms, were over £200 in excess of any'other season. Twentyfive Committee meetings were held, which showed that members of the Committee devoted a large amount of time and energy to the affairs of the Club. Milner, 16: E. S. Cresswell, 15; U. Redwortb, 13; F. McCabe, 13; W. D. Chisholm, 11 ;C. Lamb, 7; P. U. Hurst, 4. Kegret was expressed at the departure from Nelson of Mr W. N. Poole/ the popular Club captain, who had for several eeasons acted as Secretary and Athletic Handicapper, and who for some time past had carried out with exceptional ability the srdJous duties of cycling handicapper. The All Schools Running Championships were competed for at the gymkhana, and the handsome trophy presented by Messrs Hogg and Co. was again won by the repessntalives fr.om the Gordon Downs' School. Not feeling satisfied with the control of athletics in this district by the Wellington Centre, the Committee had applied to the New Zealand Council to create Nelaon an independent centre, and the hope was expresaedithat their request would be accede} 10; Reference was matte to the success achieved by G. Thomas^ son at tbe Wellington Club's autumn meeting, and ie*ret was expressed that the Club could not afford to send him to the Championships. The partial success of F. P. Kitching and W. F. Poole lat Wellington and Masterton waß also noted. Thanks were expressed, to. Miss Reeves and all those who assisted at the Gyifykhana and floral fete and the Carnival sports meeting; to Messrs Macquarie and Coote, for the presentation of trophies; to other ladies and gentlemen who presented trophies for competition at the Gymkhana, and to Mr Mercer for the use of, a iooni for Comniittoe meetings. In conclusion, the Committee expresstd satisfaction at the sound financial condition of the Club, and hoped that even greater interest would be manifested in tbe affairs of the Club in the future. Mr W. D. Chisholm, the hon. Treasurer, presented the balancesheet, which had been audited by Mr J. E. Milner. The receipts were shown at jG625"185, and the expenditure at £598 9s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £27 9s 9d. The balance of assets over liabilities was shown at £55 14s 3d. The President, in addressing .the meeing, considered that the Cluq had justified its existence, and had helped the cause of athletio sports in the district. Last year the Club was in a serious position, having liabilities amounting to about £220, but these had been got rPd of, and now the Club had a credit balance which was very satisfactory, and the officers, the Committee, and all concerned were to be congratulated on the change of affairs. He urged tbe importance of increasing the roll of membership, as live and paying members were needed to be the backbone of the Club. He was sorry they had to part with their hall. He could hot understand, why, their gymnasium was uot supported, for ho believed that such an iistitution was needed in Nelson. As the report had stated, he hoped the members would take a greater interest in the Club. He desired to see it a real live body. of young athletes, and it beoorne a wider and more embracing body. To make it such every endeavor should be put forth to increase the membership. He reoognised the indefatigable labors and energy of the half dozen men who had succeded in getting the Club to its present satisfactory position, and he heartily congratulated them. Mr E. S. Cresswell moved, and Mr Lamb seconded the adoption of the. report and balarice sheet, which was carried. . .■• ■ . m p •In reply to the President, .Mr Cbisholra said the roll of membership had doubled. A. llarley, one of the Vice-Presidents of the Club speaking of his genial disposition and kindness of heart. The President banded to the Secretary the standard badges won by Mr Thomasson for long jump and putting the shot. He congratulated the winner on his achievements. " On the motion of the President, a hearty vote of thanks waa accorded to Miss Reeves and the ladies who assisted her at the Gymkhana and floral fete. On the motion of Mr Poolo, a hearty vote of thanks waa accorded the officers for their valuable services during the paßt year. On the motion of Mr George Hogg, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr E. S. Cresswell for his many services since the inception of the Club. The mover said as Mr Cresswell was retiring from active work in connection with the Club it was only right that such a vote should be recorded. The President agreed with tbe mover. Mr Cresswell had been a good comrade, and a most useful and excellent member. On the motion of Mr 11. Milner, a hearty vote of thanks w£B accorded to the President, Mr C. Y. Fell. The mover said the Club waa very fortunate in having such an exceljent man as their President, who had in bis time been a good sport. Mr Fell thanked tbe members, and in doing so promised tbe gift of a trophy. He would do what he could in his capacity, and he hoped to see the Club become what he had indicated. The meeting then closed.
