Ex-President Steyn, writing to Mr. Stead, stated that the Boers expect the Liberal Government to give complete responsible government, not on the basis of one vote one value, to place the Dutch. , and English languages on an- equality, and to fulfil all obligations of , the Vereeniging Convention, and then leave the country sternly alone. The Liberals, he says, must also redeem the promise to take the Chinese out of the country. It was not for the Liberals to shelter themselves behind the socalled local Legislature.
