HOME MISSION MEETING.
The annual meeting in connection with the Methodist Home Mission work was held last night, when the Rev.*W. J. Williams presided. The report presented showed (omitting and pence) an income of £2,74:3, and an expenditure of £3,591, deficit £848. Collected in Nelson £41. Number of stations, 33; preaching places, 100; Maori ministers, nine; and attendants at the services, 5,600. Rev. 3. Crump introduced the Home missioner, Rev. W. B, Scott, who gave an earnest, yet amnsing description of the incidents in a Home missionary's life. He showed how a man needed to be a horseman, gardener, builder excavator, organist, choirmaster, church keeper, and preacher. He said l ,jnany calls were made on them, from caring for the dead, making wills, preaching with beer barrels for a pulpit, travelling long distances to preach to small numbers. Last July he had 258 miles to travel in discharging his duties. A'collection was taken up in aid of the Home Mission Fund. The printed report this year is a work of art, being tastefully got up. It contains a number of Historical facts, and a number of excellent illustrations, showing some of the scenic beauties of this Colony, and giving^portraits in the mission field, and Maori preachers.
