Jackson. The Secretaries and the Committee were deputed to ascertain upon what terms tbe Carnival Committee would let the Theatre for Carnival week, the Committee to report to a meeting to be held a fortnight hence. The' suggestion made is that the Society shall produce "Les Cloches de Corneville," an alternative suggestion being that an opera be put on for four nights, and a comedy for two nights, but the whole matter depends upon the terms asked by the Carnival Committee. The term concert by the pupils of the School of Music was only fairly attenuded on Aug. 22nd, but the programme presented was a very enjoyable one, and the- various performances served to show the good work that is being done by the. School. Tbe vocal items weie all highly appreciated, and in tbe instrumental work the violin, the cello, the flute and the pianoforte were used. The programme opened with the quartette Op. 272 allegro et Scherzo (Carl Reinecke), pianoforte, two violins and cello; Miss L. Hunter-Brown sang Allitfcsen's "Song of Thanksgiving" and Missj L. Flett ;?the violin solo, air Varie No. 5 (De Beriot). Tho concert terminated with the piannforfce duet "Hungarian Dance" Brahms) by Misses N, Jsnnings and C. Walters.

There was a good attendance at* bhe concert and social given at St. ' Mary's Hall on Aug. 29. The musical programme provided was a most excellent one, and was opened with a violin solo contributed by Miss Flett. Mrs Scott Cole received an enthusiastic recall on Binging " Astbore." Mr Bunny sang "If all the Stars were Mine," and was warmly •oplauded. Miss Driscoll sang ••Vanity Fair," and secuted an encore. aMr Wilmott was encored on singing" My Life for Thee," as also was Mrs Lynch, who sang " Sweetest Flower that Blooms." Driscoll was warmly applauded for her singing of "Hush-a*-Bye." Mr Cleland was encored on singing "I'm off to Philadelphia," and on reappearing gave the old favorite " Father O'Flynn." Miss Leggatt sang "The Wanderer," and Miss Hanron "Kitty Terrill," and both were well received. Mrs Scott Cole brought the most enjoyable j concert to a close by singing "Sing Sweet Bird," which was the gem ofj the evening. Father Clancy thanked the Ladies I Committee for the efforts they had ! put forth, especially mentioning the ! tasteful decoration of the stage ; the Musical Committee for the excellent programme they had managed to provide ; and to the performers for their kindness in giving their services and providing such a beautiful, varied, and enjoyable musical programme. Miss Duff did excellent service as pianiste, Mr Redwood announced the items, and Mrs M. Levy deserves mention as having charge of the decorations. After an abundance of refreshments had been provided, the company for a time enjoyed themselves in dancing, the music being efficiently supplied by Miss Fowler (piano) and Mr Shone (cornet). Mr M. Levy gave complete satisfaction as Master of Ceremonies. t ] The concert held in the All Saints' Schoolroom on Tuesday (Aug. 29th) was a rare treat, and one which was greatly enjoyed by the audience, who showed their appreciation by encoring nearly every item. The programme was an excellent one, and reflects great credit on those who were responsible for same, and the whole thing went off as merrily be the proverbial marriage bell. There was one item on the programme which we think deserves special mention, namely, the pianoforte solo by Mr Percell Webb, called "American Airs," by Sovrai. Ifc was, indeed, a musical treat, and one which will linger in the memory for a long time of those who were fortunate enough to hear it. The recitatiom by Miss F. Coote were given in hei well-known style, and kept the audience in a ripple of laughtei from start to finish. MrW. Bell, oi \ Annesbrook, was equally successfu in his recitations. The soloists, on< and all, were in splendid voice, anc it is impossible to single out anj for individualjpraise. TheTchoh 1 sang two choruses under the con--1 ductorship of the organist, and thesi were greatly appreciated. Th( soloists were Mis 363 Baigent, H, 1 Stallard, Hale, and MrG.W.
