Mr Robert F. Foster, the wellknown Dunedin tenor singer, intends to proceed to Melbourne to continue his study of voice production.

Mr Vivian Morgan, assistant at the Thames School of Mines, has been appointed to succeed his brother as director of the Waihi school, Mr P. Morgan having been appointed to the Government Geological staff.

Mr Julius Knight, the popular actor, has contracted typhoid fever ia Sydney. Mr Harry Plimmer, formerly of Wellington, is playing leading parts with Mr Williamson's Dramutic Company, pending Mr Knight's recovery.

Miss Hilda Wilton, daughter of Mr Wilton, of Wanganui, has passed her examination as a qualified chemist.

The following Parliamentary candidates are announced :— G. Witty and G. W. Russell for Kiccarton; R. Stevens and J. Carroll for Wuia'pu ; W. D. Davis and 11. J. H. Okey for New Plymouth : R. M. Houston and Theuphilus Wake for Bay of Islands. G. i J . Ponnelly has declined to oppose Sir William Russell for Hawke's Bay.
