January 4. { As the result of exhaustive enquiry ies made by the "Lyttelton Times"! regarding the operation of prohibi- 1 tion in the Ashburton district, it appears the general opinion expressed is that drunkenness had materially decreased, but there was little or no alteration in the volume of business.
