In the House of Coommns, Mr Brodrick, Secretary of State for War, explaining that the attention of Lord Roberts had been privately called to the ragging of subalterns in the Gernadier Guards by the order of unofficial courts martial. Lord Roberts had directed an enquiry to beheld. Lieut-Col. Kinloch, of the first battalion of the regiment,, attended, and he was compuls.orily retired because he was unaware of the irregularities prevailing in the regiment. . , Early Closing in Ireland. Received March 8, 4.44 p.m. March 7. A Bill introduced by Mr Sloan, member for Belfast South, providing for the closing of public houses in Ireland^ at nine o'clock on Saturday nights, ' waa read a second time by 101 to 76, in the House of Commons.
