Resignation of Canon Pollock.

Some Sensation Christchurch. - Christchurch, October 20. Some sensation has. been caused by the resigation of Canon Pollock of _ his position as organiser of the Cathedral completion fund. He has also resigned his position as Canon of the Cathedral, and honorary chaplain to the Bishop. He states that his reason for resigning was the action ) of the sub-committee in proposing to . pick the lock of his box during his absence in the north to obtain c possession of his lists of subscribers to the Cathedral fund, also the books | and papers in connection therewith. Mrs Pollock refused to allow the lock to be picked, and on Canon Pollock's return he asked the sub-committee for an explanation, and it replied that the 'proposal was made owing to the urgency of the case, but he says he can see no reason for such urgency. i A letter was sent by the sub-corn-s mittee withdrawing a letter containing the proposal, but this did not satisfy him and the matter was placed before the general committee, which endorsed the action of the sub-com-mittee. Canon Pollock then placed his resignation in the handa of the Bishop, who accepted it. The com- . mitee, in further explanation, aays that the proposal was to open the box in Mrs Pollock's presence, and there was no other way of getting the document's, which were urgently required, as Canon Pollock had tho key away with him.
