The Somali Expedition.
Received October 20, 10.30 p.m. London, Ootober 20. It is officially announced that a flying column, under Colonel Swayne, encountered the Somalies, a day's j mach from Mudig, twice repelling the Mad Mullah's attack on the 6th, and inflicting heavy losses. They captured 100 rifles. Colonel Swayne collected his transport, and formed a zarebn and reconnoitred. During the afternoon, after sharp fighting, he drove the enemy off. Colonel Phillips Captain . Angus and fifty men were killed and a hundred wounded. The Second A f rican Rifles haa five wounded, and severe losses were sustained in transport fand riding camels. The Somali levies were considerably shaken but the Mad Mullah being reinforced was approaching on all sides, and Colonel Swayne, being -hampered by the transporting of his wounded acd want of water, is now returning to Bahatalih. He asks that the remainder of the Second Rifles and 600 further reliable troops should be despatched to Berbera.
