Big Fire.
Sydney, October 20. An extensive fire is raging at the Deering Harvester Company's large premises, Kent street. The place is heavily stocked with machinery. The fire is spreading to the adjoining ' { premises. ] Later. The scene of the Kent street fire is a large four-storey brick building, the front portion of which is occupied, besides the Deering Manufacturing Company, by "The Worker" newspaper office, Hoadley C°mpany, jam makers, the Colonial Paper Company, the Anglo-Australian Finance and Land Company, the offices of Jules Renard and Company, importers agents, with Deering's extensive storage warehouse at the back, filled with large and valuable stocks of machinery, including a shipment just landed last week. Deering's place was gutted, and others, especially the printing machinery at the "Worker" office, and the Colonial Paper Company's stock were seriously damaged by water to the loss of many thousands of pounds. The fire is now (12.57 p.m. ) in hand. Received October 20, 10.59 p.m. i The fire originated in a stock of J binder twine, of which 450,000/ pounds were destroyed, and 1000 gallons of lobricating oil -fed the flames.
