i His Worship the Mayor of Motueka (Mr Hursthouse), being about to leave the district, invited the Councilors, the Town Clerks (past and present), and late Councilor Robert Rankin to dine with him at the
Motueka Hotel last evening. ■■ All accepted the invitation with the exception of Councilors Moffatt and Trewavasi the latter being unwell. A very go&d dinner was prepared by Hostess Holyoake, who spares no pains in endeavoring to please those who favor th&a with their custom. The house is certainly well kept, and cleanliness in every department vS a great recommendation. After the 1 dinner had been done ample justice io, the Mayor proposed the health of His Majesty the King, which was duly honored. Several of those present spoke of the loss the district was about to sustain by^the departure' of the Mayor, and expressed^ hope that be might return and make Motueka his home again, after which his Worship made one of his happy and telling speeches, which made it apparent what a loss the district was about to sustain. The evening was very much enjoyed, and it was a late, or,- father, early hour before the guests departed . There can be no doubt that in the Mayor-elect Motueka will have one who will do his very best for the district, and will spare no pains m endeavoring to send it ahead. The new jaws cast in Wellington have been put in the sfcoriebreaker, and we hope soon to hear' it talking again and cracking the stones better than it has done before.
