NELSON SCHOOL OF MUSIC.

Another of the interesting concerts by pupils of this School was given in the large hall on April 29th and was well attended. Necessarily, performances by pupils, many of them young, must be regarded as indicative of the manner of their training, as well as of the skill or gifts of those taking part. Prom this point of view, the concert was, on the whole, very satisfactory. The concert opened with a string quartette, Andante and Menuetto (Lachner), in which Misses E. Nixon, C. Rowe, D. Isaacs, and E. Moore were the performers. They played without a conductor, in tune, and in good time. The vocal items were Macfarren's song, "Pack Clouds Away," by Miss E. Nixon, with violin obligate by Miss L. Croucher, Miss Moore accompanying: Rossini's song, "La Passegiata, ' ' by Miss E. Stratford: and H. Smart's trio, "O Skylark for Thy Wings," by Misses E. Wright, 0. Gilbert, and R. Hanby, Miss Duff accompanying. Miss D. Isaacs played a violin solo, ' ' Meditation"* (Bach-Gounod), Miss Manoy accompanying; Miss C. Rowe also played a violin solo, "Chanson de Matin" (Elgar), Miss Buchanan accompanying: and Miss P. Fell a violin solo by Danby, "Berceuse," Miss Rowe = accompanying. The following pianoforte solos were also played :— Valse L'Espiegle. op. 125 (Raff), by Miss I. Sheldon; Gavotte (Kargenoff), by Master C. Littlejohn ; Hungarian Dance, .No. 7 (Brahms), by Miss L. McLean; and L'Oridine (Chaminade), by Miss G. Nixon.
