Wellington, January 22. The Wellington Eacing Club's Summer Meeting- opened to-day, there being fine weather, and between 4,000 and s,ooQ,pre-. sent. A sum of £16,743 was put through the machine, as against £14,764 on the first day of last year. The results were : — Anniversary Handicap \ Melwood 1, Phooka 2, Magnificent 3 ; dividend, £4 11s.
Maiden Plate: Fashion 1, Cadet 2, Laurestina 3 ; dividend, £2 12s.
Wellington Cup*. Renown 1, Coeur de Lion and Paladin (dead heat) 2. All started but Boreas and Ideal. Tortulla and Materoa led to the turn into tbe straight, where Renown shot out, and won very easily bythree lengths. Dividend, £2 4s,
Wellesley Stakes: Menchikoff 1, Indian Queen 2, Wind Whistle 3 ; dividend, £1 9s. President's Handicap : Cameo 1, Queen's Guard 2, Strathnairn 3 ; dividend, £3 14s.
Hack Race: Conspirer 1, Dartmoor 2, Art Jewel 3 ; dividend, £2 3s.
Nursery Handicap : Cruciform 1, Rere 2, Red Gauntlet 3 ; dividend, £1 lGs.
Telegraph Handicap : Blazer 1, Oings 2, Ostiak 3 ; dividend, £1 17s.
