Sensation in an English Court.
JUDGE PARRY SHOT. THREE BULLETS TAKE EFFFCT. His Honor Juage Parry, o! the i Manchester and Salford County Courts, had an attempt made on his life on July 26th in the Manchester Court. He had been engaged in hearing a motion against two certificated bailiffs, named William Taylor and William Joseph Taylor, to cancel the certificates for offences under the Law of Distress Amendment Act, 1888. His Honor took away the elder man's certificate and ordered him to pay £10 towards the applicant's costs. He did not cancel the son's certificate. SHOT IN THE HEAD. As soon as the decision was given the old man leaped upon the bench, ran to the Judge's chair, and before he could be reached pointed a revolver and fired three shots, each taking effect, one in the left cheek, another in the jaw, and the other in the neck of the Judge. Then he he was seized by a number of persons who had by this time followed him, but he fired two more shots before they succeeded in disarming him and giving him into custody. Happily a surgeon from the Royal Infirmary, Mr Montgomery, was awaiting the hearing of another case, and he at once stepped on the bench and rendered assistance to the stricken Judge. His Honor was afterwards removed to a nursing institute, where his injuries were properly attended to. Afterwards the wounded Judge sent a message to the prisoner, stating that he wished him no ill-will, and that he was sorry for the position ir which he had placed himself. He added that he wished something could be done for him. On receiving the message the prisoner fell upon his knees and began to pray, and when told that Judge Parry was going on satisfactorily he again fell on his knees and said, " Th&nk God for that."
