SEVERE FAMINE IN RUSSIA.
St. Petersburg, September 2. The famine is causing acute distress in Russia, especially in Kazan, where the thatching from the roofs of the peasants* houses is beinj. used for fodder. The authorities are endeavoring to prevent the complete destruction of live stock.
