The statement of Bank Balances laid on the table showed as folliows.

The inspector (Mr B. A. Tarrint) reported ap follows (abridged). "Owing to the unusually i wel wt a.her for the titna of the year not moon work haß been done on the toads with the exception of metalling on the Wakapuaka r >ad. — Some of the maintenance oontraotora i are in arrears with their wpik, and I cannot therefore certify to the payment of their aco uots. — The metalling on the RiwakaTakaka Hill road baa faaea aompleted, and a farther amount of £100 has been authorised for expenditrnv. I recommend that as the Beaßon h far advanced that the present contractors be allowed to continue metalling at the price of their previous tender as far as the amount will go.— So far nothing further I baa been heard from the Government regarding grant for the Wairoa cart bridge. I have taken levels and prepared plans shotting i how the road at Stanley Brook can be drained. —Authority having been received for tbe expenditure of £150 npon the Wairoa I Gorge road, and for £100 for the WakefieldDovedale road, I propose setting oat the work and inviting tenders by next meeting. — Specifications for the Table Land Track have been Bpprovsd by the Mires Department and tenders will be called for the work. — The deviation contract in Hope Valley wad in progress when the contractor hsd bis tent with contents burnt, including a copy of the plan and specifications, which renders it necessary for me to prepare another copy;— I suggest that new fenoes be ertoted on the sides of the approaches to the Motaeka bridge. — Sometime ago it was contemplated to pat a culvert across the road near the Lower Moutere store, where tbe road is liable to be flooded, bat it was found impossible to obtain a proper outlet. Now the land has ohanged ownership, and the new owner is willing to dig an outlet, and I reoommend that a culvert be pat across the road providing a sufficient outlet be obtained. — Culvert pipes have not been placed in position at Appleby, as supply had run ehoit, and it was not possible to obtain them. I hope to have it aueaded to during the month. — Owing to wet weather several contractors apply for extension of time. The Chairman said that a reply hai been received from We'liogton regarding the Wairoa bridge stating that no money having been appropriated for the work, toe matter would require to ba placed befcre the Cabinet on the return of the Minister.
