Accounts amounting to £41 lls 4d wer< ] passed for payment. \ The Clerk reported that there was on?] £37 ia the Bank. That thre was £10 to ooxm from the Wa^maa County Council, and £2L \ from the City Counci', the balance of those : bodies' contributions. Rt solved on ihe motion of Mr C. J. HarUy, seconded by Mr Look — That the Waimea ' County C.uocil ba askel for the balance oi 1 their.oontributions. '< Mr Jickell, tho Engineer, considered thai steps shoul ib^ taken to open the road. Tha road Wif co* fiuithed t j a width of forty > feet and s me portions of it sixty feet, and i he did not think it was fair that its mainten--1 ance should be any longer thrown on the > estimate of iia o st. A large number of per- ' mits, fu'ly one thousand, to use the road were now io existence, therefore it was only fair that the road should be opened, and its > maintenance put upon the local bodiis concerned No alteration b^d taken plaoe at the slip for months past, nnd if it was decided to , pnt the wall ihere, it o.uld soon be done at any tim?. If the wall was bui't probably 1 eny thing coming from the slip »ould go over the wall. He certainly considered that the expense of maintenance shcu'd not come out of the funds of the Committee now the real waß fcrty fee* wide its whole length, and that it was being bo mr.ob used. It should be officially opened at once. Mr Pattie considered the road shou'd be prop?riy finished before the local bodi H were saddled wi h is main enanoe. The Ed gin er eaid the road was priotically finished, and was wide eneu.h for til pur** poses. The wall cou'd be put up at some tut:re time. The City Oouccil would gravel its portkn of the road in a month. The Chairman (aid that swo-tbirds of the length cf the road would fall on the Waimea Coui ty Oounoii fee maintenmop. He did not think that body would agree to take the responsibility until the to^d was properly finished. Mr C. J. Harey said he coold no', see why the road cou d not be opened. It was fo.-t feet wide its whole length, and a great portion of i eizty feet wide. The Haven road he did not think was more than forty feet wide at ar.y part. If they waited for the cutting at the Bluff bang made sixty feet, they might have to wait two or three years. , He moved that a special meeting be held next month tj consider the question ol i opaning the roa<l, and that each member ol ; the Committee be notified of the business foi i that ireeting. Mr Bsi&ent sgrced with all that Mr Harley I had said, and be sec nded the mo ion. fie i thought the c nicer in charge of the prisoners ; eLoald be mvi cd to attend t J -e roeoirg to r tea i( there wou'.d bo any d.flioulty if the road I was opened on account of ihe prisoners work-

ing. He was of opinion that the wall should be erected at lha Blip. Mr Lock agreed tbat it was t me the road WBS opened. He considered that rU the members of the Committee should be given on opportunity to ba present to deeUe the da'e of opening the road. It was pointed out thai at New Plymouth, Napier, and other places, the pabho passed where prisoners were at work. In reply to qa93 bns, the engineer sta'.ol tbat the road was forty feet wide at the slip ; that the plans for the work were prepared on March 17tb, 1892 ; that Mr Trapk, the Mayor, thought t-.iat tha road might., be opened in : April, and tbe Printer be asked io perform the c?reiiiony. !I Mr Harley's motion was carried unanim> euflly, and the Committee adjourned.
