NELSON CRIOKET OLUB.

Tats Club haid its annual mat ting at the Commercial Hotel on September 26tb , Mr A. M oKellar Wix presiding. The Oommittee reported upon ths events of list year. Tbe report referred to the Club's records of last season, mentioned their misfortune in losing Biohardson, and added that during the coming season they would miss J. H. Harkness, their oldest member. It was shown that tbe averages obtained by both batters and bowlers was satisfactory, and reference was made to the fact that the Nelson C ub was the only one to send a team outside the district, the West Ooast trip beiog referred to as a very enjoyable one. Tbe work of the juniors was well spoken of, and ' for the ooming season it was said that pros- : peots were deoidedly promising. i The Chairman regretted the laok of en?rgy i last season, and the Club's non-snooess. To i be suooeßßful it was absolutely necessary to praotice in a thorough and systematic way. i The Olnb had alwayß ooonpied a prominent i position in orioketing circ.eß, and in the i good old days it was quite oommon for them I to defeat the Wellington olubs. He intended < to work hard during the season for tha Olub < and he bad every reason to believe that cue*- < cess would attend their efforts. < The report was unanimously adopted, to- i gether with the balaace sheet. Tbe latter < waß fairly satisfactory, but it was Bhown that s the outstanding subscriptions amounted to a i considerable sum. ] The eleotion of officers resulted as follows : • — President, Mr Solanders (re-eleoted) ; Vice- i Presidents. Messrs 8. Kirkpatriok, A. S. I Atkinson, Bey. E. C. Isaac, and Dr. Boor ; i Seoretary and Treasurer, Mr 8. Levien (reeleoted) , Conjmittee, Messrs Booth, Trask, N. Levien, Walker, and Wix (three to form a - quorum; Delegates to the Association, Messrs ■ Traßk and S. Levien. Eight new members were then proposed, and duly eleoted. Tbe matter of reorganising the present ] syttem of Championship matohes was then * brought before the meeting by Mr Walker, : who spoke very strongly upon the necessity ] for a change. It was decided to open the season on Saturday week if possible. < The matter of umpires then cropped up. i There was muoh necessity for baying capabh i gentlemen to undertake the prsition. Messrs Wix and Walker concurred. < Tbe delegates to the Association were in- i structed to make enquiries upon the subject ; i ar d also, to effect a much needed alteration ] in the present method of selecting represen- i tative teams. It was sugge ted tbat one i competent man would be the best method. i It was mentioned that several country ' placers would, in a-1 probability, beoome i members of tbe Clob. It was reported tbat a number of trophies ! would be given for competition during the ; present seasoD. The meeting tben t rminated, after a vote ' ' f thanks to Mr Wix for presiding.
