CHRISTMAS TREE, ETC.

There was a large attendanoe at St. John's Schoolroom on Sept. 18, aid judging by tbe amount of business dins, the takings must bave bsen satisfactory. A host of young, ladies disposed of a considerable number cf Eckels for tbe Christmas tree, which was qui'e an attraction. The Work Stall, a repository of ute'ul articles, was presided over by Mrs Harvey and Miss Gardiner. Tbe Bfifreshmect Stall was in obarge of Meedamea Martin, Niool, and Newman, Misses Stringer and Bodley, and business was so brisk io their department that the various delicacies disappeared aa though ty magic. Button-holes were worn by all tbe gee, t'emen, tbe Flower girls (Misses E. Boon, h. Newman, E. Harvey, M. Sussex, M. Toms, and E. Toll) driving a very brisk trade. The Dol! competition was not a suooess so far as the number of competitors was concerned. The Jadge (Miss Mit nic Karßten) awarded the first prize to Misa E. Toms for her doll whioh represented a w'dow, ana the second prize to Mies K. Bitehelor for her baby doll. More entered for the Cake competition, and Mr I. Johns awarded the prizes as follows — Mra A. E. Hounsell (two), Miss Bamford, Mrs Palk, and Miae M. Hoffmann. During the evening some excellent orohestral musio was supplied by Messrs Miller, Jaoobe, Leaper, E -oourt, Davis, Matter Jacobs, and Mies Jacobs (piano). It Bhould be mentioned tbat the performers kindly gave their Bervices. There was a large attendance at St. John's Schoolroom last night. The Rev. G. Bond distributed the prizeß won in the doll and oake competition. The large Christmas tree was Btripped by Msssrs W. Flemiog and Smith, and the presentation of prizes created much merriment in several cases. Tbe Young People's Christian Endeavor Sooiety will bave a nice Bum to hand over to the Circuit Steward towards the debt.
