FOUNDERING OF A HULK.
Svdnkv, September 27. While the hulk " Gem " with a cargo of coal for the s.s. Mariposa was 1 being towed from Newcastle she encountered a heavy gale and foundered off Broken Bay. Larsen, the bulk-keeper, with his wife and four young Ohildren, and Holmes, a deck hand, were dbbard at the iime. A heavy sea, which (Jame on board befere the vessel sank, washed Larsen and Holmes overboard before the eyes of the wife of the former. Though the night was very dark Mrs Larsen succeeded in signalling the tug that the " Gem " was „bout tp sink, and the remainder of those on board were rescued before the vessel foundered. '
