The County Council Conference csrried a resolution suggesting technical hmendmentß to the Counties Act. Resolutions were also carried that the Government be requested to vest all publio reserves, domains, cemeteries, etc, io the name of tbe local authorities; tbat the local authority should be consulted in laying out roads which they are called upon to make and maintain ; that Native lands, the title of whioh have been ascertained, and the relative interest of owners defined, situated within five miles of a legally defined road, should be liable to oontribete full general, separate, and special works rates ; that the Rating Aot be amended to enable county authorities to collect rates upon the value of timber, etc. growing upon the land when persons acquiring the right to cut timber were nos owners of tha land ; that unpaid rate 3 on Crown land which is leased or sold and are forfeited be a first charge upon the land ; that local bodies be informed immediately any Crown lands are alienated ; that no borough be formed with a leas population that 2000, and that it must not have an area of more than one square mile to every 1000 of population ; that the Government be requested not to proceed bsyond the second reading of tkj Local Government Bill thid session in order to enable local bodies to express an opinion t hereon before it pa.ses in law.
