Goldmining Near Wellington.

Four applications have been received by the City Counoil for mining leases on tbe Karori Reservoir Reserve just outside the town. A prospeot is said to have given over 2az to the ton many years ago. A fair quanii y of alluvial gold was found in a^reek at Baker's Hill, and the existence of a reef was Buspecte 3, but it was never found. Prospectors who have been there some time now think that they have hit upon this reef. The Counoil has instructed the Eagineer to report how the reservoir is likely to be affected before granting the leases.
