THIRD-CLASS CHAMPIONSHIP.
UNIONS V. COLLEGE 11.
In tbe Botanical Gerdens Reserve yesterday afternoon the Third-class Championship match between tbe Union and College II teams waß played under protest from the former, as one of their players who bad been engaged in previous matches, aod who had] been picked by them for this, was appearing on the other side. The game resulted in the Oollege scoring 11 points to their opponents nil. The Unions did not play with their usual combination, either amongst the forwards or backs, although all tbe baok3 individually played good games. The College on the otber hand apparently had beta practising hard and were seen to muoh better advantage than in any previous match. In the first spell Stackey and Wood soored tries, but the attempts at goal in both instances were fruitless. Stnckey scored a try in the second Bpell after a fine bit ot play, and Wix kicked a fine goal. Stuokey, amongst the back?, played a fine game for tbe wioners, and Tomlinson aleo put in some good work. All the forwards piayed well, Palmer perhaps being deserving of special mention. Amongst the losers, Livick, Preshaw, Levien and Usher played hard in tbe back division, while amongst the forwards Hamilton, Kempthorne, Baigent and King, were the most prominent. Mr G. R. Simpson refereed. Tbe result of yesterday's match makes tbe Riva s, Unions and College equal, but the protest entered by tbe Unions bas to be decided by the Management Com* mitee of the Union, whioh may perhaps pal a different complexion in tbe present state of affair-.
