NELSON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

A well attended meeting of tho Committee of this Society was held at the City Council Chimber last evening, Mr Bannehr, as one uf the Vice -presidents, occupying the chair. The business of the meeting was chitfly with regard to tha Cliry^e.mheiuutn Show to be hald about ths enci of April, and the schedule of prizes was very carefully gone throogb with a view to avoiding nny possibility oi error (is to the several classes, &nd come additions and alterations wore mada to the published list, but an smenAed schedule will be publisbed thorily. A number of special prizes have been promised, and a* two or threa more aro expected the complete list cannot ba stated for af >w days. Bolfcon junr, and rule No. 6, which provided that ko competitor could enter more than one lot for any single prize was amended so as to provide that- nny person oonld enter, frej of charge, two exhibits; but c?uld not take raoro than o'je of the prizes allotted for such exhibits. With regard f.o the first prize awarded for d-:sert apples at the la-e Show, it was explained that tli9 exhibit was sent by Major Patqn, of Hop?, thr ugh Mr Hale, who3e name waa inadvertently attached to the prize ticket. The necessary correption was raado. It was agreed to obtain additional show boxes, and to obtain an estimate of the coit in time for the next meeting of tho Committee, whioh is to bo held about aweekhenca.
